Newspaper Spot Illustrations

A different drawing of a newspaper has been running on Page A3 of The New York Times since March 2, 2017. Collaborators have included fine artists, commercial illustrators, and graphic designers. The series has spawned at least five books and is currently commissioned by Vinnie Neuberg, who has written about it here. Some of my favorites follow:

Jason Polan
2017–2018

Jason Polan, a prolific artist who set for himself the impossible task of drawing every New Yorker, made nearly 500 drawings of newspapers for this series from 2017–2018, 365 of which were published. In 2024, I worked with Jason Polan LLC to produce three 30” x 45” posters of his drawings for The Times newsroom. 

Christoph Niemann
2019

This series of spots by Christoph Niemann was turned into a book, The Paper, which he describes as a wordless homage to the joy of reading newspapers and magazines.
